The TSUBAME 3D head was originally designed as part of an integrated tripod, but once it became available as a standalone unit, it quickly established itself as a benchmark among 3‑way heads. For more than 60 years its basic structure has remained the same, while continuous minor refinements have pushed its performance to a level that is hard to match. It may sound simple to say it “moves smoothly and locks precisely,” but in reality, very few heads actually achieve this. With the TSUBAME 3D head, movement is fluid and controlled, and when you tighten the locks after framing, image shift is kept to an absolute minimum—something that contributes enormously to real‑world ease of use. The feel of the current model is truly unique, made possible by 100% Made‑in‑Japan construction, carefully selected materials down to the last screw, and machining tolerances refined to within 1/100 mm. By their very nature, 3‑way heads—allowing independent control of vertical, horizontal, and tilt axes—need a certain size and weight to deliver the required rigidity. Make them too light or too compact and you inevitably start to see compromises and weaknesses. Even so, many photographers who are serious about considering landscape work, architecture, or still life, will say that a 3‑way head is essential for precise composition. For those shooters, this is often the head they ultimately end up with.

This monopod is built using virtually the same leg section as the TSUBAME semi‑short 4‑section tripod. Stripped of unnecessary gimmicks, it focuses purely on strength and durability, inheriting the reliability of a tripod design that has been refined in the field for over 60 years. In terms of actual weight, it competes not only with other aluminum monopods, but is also very close to many carbon‑fiber models from other brands. Like the tripod, it comes standard with a shoulder strap, which makes it especially useful in situations where a tripod cannot be set up, or as extra support for handheld shooting. Instead of relying on low‑cost generic parts, we use premium materials and pursue high‑precision machining throughout. Every component—down to the smallest screw—is manufactured in Japan, and final assembly is carried out in Japanese factories under strict quality control. Because every part is kept available as a service component, the monopod can be fully overhauled whenever necessary and restored to like‑new performance, giving you the confidence to rely on it for many years.
